New Store-Front Action Center Opens on Seattle‘s Capitol Hill

Washington United for Marriage (WUM), the broad coalition working to defend the state’s bipartisan marriage law by approving Referendum 74, today opens a high-visibility, Action Center on Pike Street in Seattle’s bustling Capitol Hill neighborhood to train volunteers, sell campaign merchandise, conduct phone banks and better service the growing number of small businesses in the area which have endorsed the effort.

The Capitol Hill Action Center brings the total number of WUM regional offices to three, with action centers already up and running in Tacoma and Spokane. Since the end of June, WUM has engaged over 1,000 volunteers statewide, with 20 phone banks operating every week.

“We’re excited to get a storefront right in the heart of Seattle,” said WUM’s campaign manager Zach Silk. “People have been clamoring for us to be on Capitol Hill where voters can get the facts, volunteers can get to work, and those looking to wear their support of marriage for every loving couple, can buy a t-shirt or get a bumper stick.”

Among the activities planned for the Capitol Hill WUM Action Center at 517 East Pike are:

— Training supporters in how to share their stories about why marriage matters to them and why voting to Approve Referendum 74 is so critical for all Washington families.

— Daily phone banks to reach voters and supporters.

— Merchandise sales from the popular WUM t-shirts, to bags, stickers, lawn signs and bumper stickers, all supporting the campaign.

— Seven-day-a-week visibility on one of the busiest streets on Capitol Hill, thereby enabling supporters and others to learn more about Referendum 74 and why marriage matters.
