Washington United for Marriage Launches Video Testimonials On “Why Marriage Matters” to All Families
Washington United for Marriage (WUM), the broad statewide organization dedicated to Approving Referendum 74 and upholding the state’s marriage law, today launched two video testimonials making the case that marriage matters to all families in Washington.

“We know that when people realize how universal marriage is for everyone, they understand why nothing replaces marriage for loving couples and their families,” said Zach Silk, campaign manager for WUM. “These heartfelt stories of a committed lesbian couple and another, of parents who simply want all their daughters to have the same shot at lifetime happiness, resonate for so many people. Taken together, they speak directly to what’s at stake in this campaign — and that’s about standing up for all Washington families.”
One video features Steve and Robin Boehler of Mercer Island, who have three daughters. Both parents talk about how much their marriage has meant to them and how important it is for them to know all three of their daughters — including their lesbian daughter — can marry the person they love. “I have three daughters and all of them want to get married and all of them deserve to be married,” says Robin Boehler. “They are three wonderful, amazing people. And one is not less than the other.”
In the second video, Tammy and Rachel Reim-Ledbetter of Bonney Lake, talk about the depth of their commitment to one another. “I love her. She’s amazing. I would feel incomplete without her,” says Tammy Reim-Ledbetter. “I think what I’ve learned from my parents’ marriage is that it’s really important to be able to laugh, that laughter gets us through everything…the commitment to family, to each other,” says Rachel Reim-Ledbetter.
