How R74 Will Appear in November
Referendum 74 — The Vote is “Approve”
Here is how the referendum will appear on the ballot in November:
The legislature passed Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 6239 concerning marriage for same-sex couples, modified domestic-partnership law, and religious freedom, and voters have filed a sufficient referendum petition on this bill. This bill would allow same-sex couples to marry, preserve domestic partnerships only for seniors, and preserve the right of clergy or religious organizations to refuse to perform, recognize, or accommodate any marriage ceremony.
Should this bill be:
[ ] APPROVED
[ ] REJECTED
Our opponents want to roll the clock back and have voters “Reject” R74. That means the vote that protects and supports ALL Washington families — is “Approve”.
Approving R74 means that voters believe that all loving couples, including gay and lesbian couples, deserve to marry the person they love. This is now the law of the state. Voting to “Approve” means that voter honor the values of Washington:
o We believe marriage and family are about love and commitment, working together, bettering the community, raising children, and growing old together.
o We believe in a Washington that supports strong families and values freedom and equality
o We believe the true measure of us as Washingtonians is how we treat one another, and that means everyone should have the opportunity to make that lifetime commitment to the person they love.
o And we believe that marriage matters.
