STATEMENT FROM WASHINGTON UNITED FOR MARRIAGE WELCOMING PRESIDENT OBAMA TO WASHINGTON STATE

President Visits Washington the Day After Standing Up for Marriage Equality; This November, Washington Will Vote on the Freedom for All Couples to Marry the Person they Love

Statement by Zach Silk, Campaign Manager of Washington United for Marriage.

STATEWIDE — “It’s a special day when the Commander in Chief visits our state, and President Obama’s visit to Washington today is especially notable.  Yesterday, the President made history by declaring his support for marriage equality.”

“Momentum is on the side of the freedom to marry.  Polling consistently shows that a majority of Washington voters approve of our law, passed by the Legislature and signed by the governor in February, and support their gay and lesbian friends, family members, neighbors and colleagues who simply want to marry the person they love.”

“Our campaign is prepared, motivated and focused on protecting that basic freedom. And as we talk to voters across the state, we’re finding that many people are on the same journey the President has traveled and understand that only marriage conveys the love and responsibly that so many of us seek.

Today, we are delivering thousands of messages to the President from voters of every region, young and old, gay and straight who want to thank him for his strong and moving commitment. Today, we are proud of our president, our country and our state and like so many others, we are rededicated and energized in our noble work to protect the freedom to marry in Washington.
